Good flavors achieved by good ingredients and cooking techniques
When you are in Puli, you may visit Xiu-qinga��s Kitchen in Taomi Community if you want to taste dishes of local flavors at a cheap price. Located on a hillside, the kitchen of the restaurant is not magnificent but mildly renovated. However, this place has something rare: fresh ingredients, good cook, and hospitality that is unique to rural areas.
The Cuisine of local flavors is cooked by large frying pan in a brick kitchen, and every dish is cooked by the restaurant owner Xiu-qing. As a local in Puli, she once worked in a hotel in Taipei for more than 20 years. She also opened a restaurant of Sichuan cuisine. After her mother had a surgery because of a stroke, she decided to go back to her hometown to take care of her mother. At first, Xiu-qing worked as a waitress at a Hakka dish restaurant opened by her relatives. She later worked inside the kitchen and therefore learned how to cook genuine Hakka cuisine.
Unfortunately, the 921 Earthquake in 1999 devastated the area, and the Taomi Community entered into a period of downturn. In the reconstruction period, Xiu-qing decided to open her own restaurant and rebuild the area again. Xiu-qinga��s Kitchen uses locally grown vegetables, and every dish is cooked by the good cook, Xiu-qing. Over the past six or seven years, delicious homemade dishes plus heartfelt service have enchanted locals and gourmets alike.
Customized meals for students
Xiu-qing is particular about every dish. She is in charge of everything in the kitchen, from selecting local ingredients, making special sauces, to cutting and cooking food. Aside from typical homemade dishes, the restaurant also provided delicious and healthy meals for students. As a result, Xiu-qinga��s Kitchen has become a beloved restaurant by students of the nearby Chi Nan University.
