COFFEE AND CHOCOLATE TAIWAN
About 10 years ago, suggested by his friends, the owner of “Coffee and Chocolate Taiwan” began to plant cocoa.
After being able to successfully plant cocoa, he then started to study how to use cocoa to make delicious chocolate. When he could finally make a series of wonderful products, he decided to open this store. In “Coffee and Chocolate Taiwan,” from planting, harvesting, fermenting, drying, roasting to ultimately grinding and tempering are alisade by themselves. They provide diverse chocolate related products, including cocoa, chocolate, nama chocolate, chocolate drinks, or chocolate dessert, hoping that all chocolate-lovers coming here could indulge themselves in the most original yet delectable flavors.
Located in Gaoshu, Pingtung, Dalukuan Hotel is located at the intersection of forest and plain. Therefore it owns not only majestic mountain scenery but also great views of spacious green plain.
Wutai Township is the highest township in Pingtung County and the home of a group of Rukai aboriginal people.
Rukai cultural artifacts, including traditional slate houses, and traditional arts such as knitting and stone carving are practiced. Wutai also offers waterfalls, quiet valleys, ecological sightseeing, countryside scenery and flower gardens. At Old Haocha, traditional houses, an ancient spirit house, stone posts and other relics are preserved. This is the only second-class national monument in Taiwan related to aboriginal culture. It is a great place for family hikes and sightseeing.
Have a lunch at Wutai Villa and savor a unique Rukai aboriginal style feast.
YANBAN (SLATE) LANE
The lane was constructed from slate and is lined with sculptures, pottery, and other arts that tell ancient tales of weaving maids, brave hunters and aging headmen.
The entrance to these stone slab houses is very low, requiring most people to bend over to enter. Within the houses, there are no cement pillars, as the houses are completely supported by the structure and position of the stone slabs. Of all the stone slab architectures in Taiwan, only the ones in Wutai have been untouched and unchanged, maintaining traditional methods of usage. Thus they are important artifacts of the past.
WUTAI PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Mr. Dubanan was a revered local artist. Mr. Dubanan’s designs are inspired by Rukai beliefs. The most important aboriginal belief is union, and the second is family.
Mr. Dubanan combines these two crucial elements in the church architecture with many detailed designs. He used gravel and tile to build the church bell, hoping that the sound of the bell would attract all believers to gather together at the church. The Presbyterian Church was Mr. Dubanan’s last project, one in which he successfully expressed the Rukai spirit. To the people of the Rukai, the church also serves as a memorial to the memory of Mr. Dubanan.
SHANCHUAN GLASS SUSPENSION BRIDGE
The Shanchuan Glass Suspension Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in Taiwan.
It connects the two townships, Majia and Sandimen in Pingtung County, southern Taiwan. Since both townships have large populations of indigenous people (mainly from the Rukai and Paiwan tribes), the bridge is adorned with a variety of indigenous-theme decorative elements, including glass beads, a famous Sandimen handicraft product.
