WULING NATIONAL FOREST RECREATION AREA
For those interested in high mountain farm life, there are several farms in these mountainous regions that welcome visitors and offer an insight of local rural life. One of the most prominent farms, which can be easily reached from Mt. Hehuan, is Wuling Farm.
In 1950, the government appointed retired soldiers to cultivate a new farm in Fushoushan, which can grow apples, peaches, pears, and vegetables.
The farm is 6 kilometers away from Lishan, 1,800~2,500 meters in altitude. The total area is about 900 hectares. Besides fruits, Fushoushan also grows tea and flowers. The beautiful flowers and the fruitful orchards are the achievements of those retired soldiers. Sung Lu, resort villa of Chiang Kai-Shek, is also located on the farm. Pine trees surround the villa, which has been open to accommodate civil tourists.
Located in Heping, Taichung City, Lishan was called Shalamao in the past.
It has an altitude of 2000 meters and is a famous summer resort. Lishan is noted for its production of pears, apples, and peaches. Lishan has beautiful mountainous scenery and is also famous for its flowers, vegetables, and waterfalls. Lishan Guesthouse is the first tourist hotel in Lishan. The hotel is of traditional Chinese architectural style. Transportation around Lishan is very convenient. Taroko National Park is on the left, Taichung on the west, Wushe on the south and Yilan on the north.

TAIWAN SALMON ECO CENTER
Formosan Landlocked Salmon, also known as the “Cherry Blossom Hook Salmon”, is a very rare variety of fish on the verge of extinction.
Wuling Farm is the home of this land-locked salmon and you can find it in the Qijiawan Creek Ecological Protection Area. The Taiwan Salmon Eco-Center is located on a river terrace on the lower reaches of Qijiawan River. The display area has displays about the salmon’s ecology, distribution and conservation achievements. A large number of live salmon and Taiwan shovel jaw carp are also on display in tanks that simulate their natural environment. A documentary “Release of Formosan landlocked salmon into their historic habitat” is also shown throughout the day for the enjoyment of visitors.
