In 1952, the Juguang Tower was built under the design of renowned architect Sheng Xue-hai.
This ancient three-story attic structure has a splendid appearance and extraordinary atmosphere. Inside the tower are exhibition halls displaying documents and materials concerning the history and current status of Kinmen.
CHEN CHING-LAN WESTERN HOUSE
The building itself had a protruding “Turtle Head” entry and also a rear annex so was very extensive.
The fine detailing included both Western and Chinese influences such as the gable at the front and column heads. On the side wall panels, bamboo-shaped ceramic downpipes were fitted to channel rainwater flowing down from the roofs. Glazed tiles were used for the outside verandahs painted with flowers and fruits. The doorway couplets were written by Fu Hsi-Chi, a local Houpu notable. Inside were heavy roller doors to ensure that the building was well protected against outside threats.
The Zhaishan Tunnel is an underground tunnel that leads directly to the ocean from the inner land.
The excavation of the tunnel was launched in 1961 and was used mainly to preserve military boats. Zhaishan Tunnel is now one of the star tourist attractions of Kinmen.
GUNINGTOU WAR MUSEUM
Located on the battlefield of the Guningtou War, this museum was inaugurated in 1984 in commemoration of the Guningtou War.
Hung around in the museum are several oil paintings depicting battle scenes. Also on display are documents of war history and war trophies, accounting comprehensively for the tremble of the war.
ZHONGSHANLIN VISITOR CENTER
Located in the southwestern corner of Kinmen Island, this settlement is made up of several different clans, with the Li and Huang clans tracing their arrival all the way back to the Yuan Dynasty.
Due to the village’s proximity to a sea harbor, during the early Qing Dynasty, most villages made a living by trading with Hungzhou and Jinzhou. Towards the end of the Qing Dynasty, traders ventured to Indonesia as well. Those that became rich returned home to refurbish the ancestral shrines, build Western-style houses and set up schools, creating the large variety of architecture in Shueitou today.
SHISHAN (MT. LION) HOWITZER FRONT
Once a crucial military defense base, Shishan Howitzer Front is now a popular tourist attraction.
Apart from the over 200 cannons, visitors come here to watch the cannon mounting performances held daily at Shishan.
SHANHOU FOLK CULTURE VILLAGE
Sixteen symmetrical two-courtyard historic houses, an ancestral shrine and a school academy are known collectively as the “Eighteen Houses of Middle Fort at Shanhou.”
The overall layout was developed by famous Jiangxi architects and the great attention to detail can be seen in each house’s location, purpose, interior spaces, courtyards, and lofts. The entire project took 25 years to complete. Visiting tourists particularly enjoy standing in the alleys to take photos of the saddleback roofs, gabled walls, swallowtails and blue sky. This work of art by six master craftsmen brought from Tangshan is a must-see destination for all visitors to Kinmen.
Numerous tunnels inside Brave Fortress connect those fortress altogether. Artillery forts, Zhongshan hall, and bedrooms all bring visitors back the early time.
Warrior Fortress owns artillery forts, Zhongshan hall, ammunition depots, machine gun forts, bedrooms for soldiers, and the fire pool. Those underground tunnels are connected to different coastal defenses.
WIND LION GOD
Wind Lion God is the god of wind in Kinmen which helps those local residents prevent from the interference of wind.
Wind Rooster is a unique idol that keeps those residents from evil spirits.
HUJINGTOU BATTLE MUSEUM
Hujingtou Battle Museum is situated in the very tip of Lieyu’s northwest corner and was completed in 1989.
Apart from its exhibits of battle history, it also includes an Observation Post and Broadcast Station. Most of the exhibits cover the battle for Lieyu. The Observation Post was equipped with high magnified telescopes while the Broadcasting Post was used to play music and propaganda speeches targeted at China.
On the top of the walls of his tower, stand the statues of seven brave soldiers armed with guns.
In a battle against the Japanese at Gubeikou in 1933, seven Chinese soldiers fought and lost their lives in a die-hard defense of the base. In 1963, the Bada Tower was built to remember the bravery of these seven soldiers.
Located on the coast between Siwei and Jiugung in southeastern Little Kinmen.
Jiugung Tunnel is carved out of a reef of granite. In one way, it is an important spot in defense of the Jinlei waterway. In another way, it is a natural shelter for the underground tunnel. The Jiugung Tunnel was constructed in the pattern of twin Ts with four exits and five passages to harbors.
Ci Causeway is one of those military attractions in Kinmen.

10:00 Jinchang Township was originally an important military and political center and finally turns to be a well-known tourist attraction.
10:15 We head to Wentai Pagoda, a hexagonal five-story structure used as a navigational aid since the Ming dynasty.
10:45 Stroll around picturesque Shuitou Village and visit some historic buildings such as Deyue Gun Tower and Jinshui Elementary School.
11:40 We take a ferry to Lieyu (Lesser Kinmen).
12:00 Lunch at Huang Cuo-Three Stories, featuring nutritious local style dishes made with taro.
13:30 Start touring the island by driving Kinmen’s iconic camouflage-patterned carts. We visit some military historic sites including General’s Fortress, Brave Fortress, Warrior Fortress, Wind Lion God, Wind Rooster, Hujingtou Battle Museum, Mao Gong Shi, Hujingtou Battle Museum, and Jiugong Tunnel, Bada Tower, and Jiugung Tunnel.

09:00 At Guningtou Battle Museum and Peace Memorial Park, we can learn about some battle stories of Guningtou
10:00 Beishan Old Western-style house, in the mixed Chinese and Western style, was located at a key road junction. It became the site of a deadly firefight when the ROC forces later counter-attacked. The bullet walls of this building provide a stark reminder of how intense the battle must have been. Chi Breakwater, one of those military attractions in Kinmen.

14:00 Take an after-dinner walk around Houpu Village, where many historic buildings, as well as interesting handmade goods shops, can be visited.
